After a process that took more than a year, the Co-op Cafe has acquired its liquor license and we now have a small selection of alcohol available for sale while the cafe is open.  We give a special thanks to the current Board of Directors, who had to jump through a lot of hoops (including multiple trips to Quadra Island) to make this happen.

We are currently offering a few beers and ciders in the cold display case along with the other drinks.  You can buy one any time the cafe is open, but you must drink it within the service area which includes the main cafe, the front deck, and the back porch.  We will ask for ID for anyone who appears under 30 years old, and we have no plans to sell alcohol in the store.

Along with beer and cider, we plan to make a selection of wines available during the Dream Cuisine dinners – either by the bottle or by the glass.  We’ll pick varieties that go along with the dinner themes.

We expect the liquor service to make more events viable at the Co-op Cafe.  We cannot have alcohol available at any events that involve patron participation (e.g., open mics, dances, etc.).  We can, however, hold events such as televised sports, music acts, book readings, etc.  We will always have food available for purchase at such events – we are not trying to act like a bar and, in fact, the law will not allow us to do that – and so you can always rely on us to provide the quality food you’re accustomed to.

Thank you for your continued support of the Co-op!
