The CNFC Board is very pleased to announce that the Co-op now owns the land on which it stands!
You probably know that our location has been leased from the School District for many years and that we have been aspiring and striving towards ownership for the last 10 years. On the 23rd of March 2015, this long effort was rewarded with success: final paperwork was completed and title transferred to the Co-op.
There is even more good news; we have obtained the necessary funding to upgrade our septic system as well! Work will commence ASAP, with a projected completion date of July 1. We will also be making several improvements to the store and kitchen — including roof repair and the purchase of a new, reliable generator.
Our new septic system qualifies for the “Go Green” grant, which we obtained with the assistance of Sandra Wood; the project will include an educational display and an attractive shelter/picnic area in our Courtyard. The upgrade will permit us to reduce our use of disposable paper serviceware by at least half, realizing a significant cost savings as well as a better fit with our principles.
We would like to thank everyone who donated and otherwise supported the Co-op during the long and often challenging effort to acquire the land. Without the generous financial support of our members and the Cortes community at large, plus the hard work of many persevering negotiators over the years, we would not have reached our goal. We would like to invite everyone to a Housewarming Party, Summer Season Kickoff, Septic System Completion Gala, and general Land Purchase Celebration on July 4, 2015, in the Courtyard.
Thanks to your commitment and support, the CNFC now has a secure and lasting home! We look forward to providing our community and our summer visitors with the best in local and organic foods — including Bakery and Cafe treats — for many years to come. THANK YOU Cortes, and especially our loyal and committed membership, for making this happen.
